Band 3 Switchboard Operator required on a temporary basis based in Antrim

Role: Band 3 Switchboard Operator

Rate of Pay: £11.67

Location: Antrim

Hours: Adhoc Shifts

Duration: Temporary

Main duties/Responsibilities:

  • Deals with enquiries from internal staff, external organisations, senior management and the general public who are sometimes distressed.
  • Report any faults in the switchboard, internal call system and any systems connected to the telephone exchange or located within the Department to the appropriate authority/service provider.
  • Maintain and update the electronic internal telephone directory.
  • Operate computerised internal paging system, issue pagers, check and replace batteries
  • Implement emergency procedures when required for cardiac arrest, stroke and trauma teams for Holywell Switchboard (and if working at Antrim and Causeway Hospitals).
  • Implementing and apply business continuity procedures during the failure of the switchboard or paging systems and communicate with colleagues and nursing staff.
  • Report and record faults on the fire alarm system for NHSCT sites. Contact the relevant Estates Officer/ Switchboard and contact the relevant estates worker on call i.e. fitter. Liaise directly with the fire alarm monitoring company when needed and provide information on location and type of faults
  • Monitor alarms for instance: Boiler House, Medical Gas, Kitchens, Mortuary, Pharmacy and laboratory in NHSCT sites. Recording and passing information to the various departments
  • Activate the PC based PageOne long range paging system to activate pagers during a potential or declared major incident alert and day-to-day communication.
  • Implement the Major Incident Response Procedure during a major incident by recording vital information given from emergency services eg ambulance control and communicate this information directly to lead medical consultants, managers and directors and other hospital switchboards
  • Provide an immediate response to emergency alarms activated by staff who may be at risk and alert the appropriate emergency service or send an emergency bleep to the wards with information provided.
  • Implement the Fire procedures during a fire alarm and provide accurate information to the Fire Service, Trust Departments, Duty Manager, Estates and Porters
  • Record and cost private calls and fax transmissions made via Switchboard

Essential Criteria:

  • Siemens, Mitel or equivalent system for call handling/switchboard.

OR

  • 5 GCSEs at A to C (or equivalency) AND 1 year's relevant experience in use of a Siemens, Mitel or equivalent system for call handling

OR

  • 5 GCSEs at A to C (or equivalency) AND 2 year's relevant administrative experience
