GROUNDS MAINTENANCE INDUSTRIAL
Location: Hillsborough
Hours: 37hrs per week
Duration: up to March 2027
Pay: £13.75 per hour

The Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute (AFBI) delivers world-class science to support agriculture, the environment, and the wider economy. Sponsored by the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA), AFBI provides evidence-based research and monitoring that informs government policy and promotes sustainability in Northern Ireland and beyond.
Job role:
The successful applicant's duties will include the following: -
- Carry out general estate and grounds maintenance across AFBI farm research sites.
- Operate a range of small agricultural, grounds maintenance and estate equipment.
- Undertake fencing, landscaping, vegetation control and upkeep of farmed platform including weekly clean.
- Support the maintenance and presentation of research farm facilities, buildings and external areas.
- Drive farm vehicles/jeeps etc and transport equipment, materials and visitors as required.
- Assist with security, site access control and weighbridge operations as and when required.
- Carry out manual maintenance tasks, including cleaning, pressure washing, painting and repairs.
- Support animal units through feeding, livestock handling and routine husbandry activities.
- Assist scientific and technical staff with research related farm operations and livestock measurements.
- Contribute to feed preparation and other farm support services as required.
- Provide support across multiple farm units and locations during peak workload periods.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety, biosecurity, environmental and animal welfare standards.
- Maintain accurate records and report maintenance issues, defects and equipment requirements.
- Participate in out of hours duties as and when required.
- Undertake any other farm estate, maintenance or operational duties as requested by management.

Essential Criteria:
- Two GCSE's including English Language and Maths, grade C or above.
AND
- Experience working in an agriculture environment or estates/maintenance and upkeep environment and operating small machinery.
- At least 12 months experience of working with livestock, i.e. cows/sheep/pigs
- Possess a full, UK current or exchangeable** driving licence from the list for manual vehicles, (to aid the successful candidate in driving AFBI vehicles) enabling the licence holder to fulfil the duties of this role.
