Housing Advisor (Case Worker)

About the Role
We are currently recruiting for a Housing Advisor (Case Worker) to provide housing advice and support to people who may be facing difficult or complex circumstances.
This is a rewarding role where you can make a genuine difference to people's lives, helping customers understand their housing options, access support and, wherever possible, prevent homelessness and find sustainable housing solutions.
You will manage your own caseload, work directly with customers and liaise with a wide range of internal teams, landlords, support services and external agencies.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide professional housing advice and assistance to customers with a range of housing needs.
- Assess individual circumstances and carry out interviews, enquiries and home or temporary accommodation visits where required.
- Manage a caseload effectively, prioritising cases according to individual need and risk.
- Investigate homelessness applications and make appropriate decisions in line with relevant legislation, policies and procedures.
- Provide advice on housing options, homelessness, tenancy rights, benefits, affordability, rent arrears and housing support.
- Identify suitable housing solutions across both the public and private sectors.
- Make recommendations based on the suitability and affordability of available accommodation.
- Keep customers informed about the progress of their case and ensure records and decisions are accurately documented.
- Arrange emergency or temporary accommodation where required.
- Work proactively to prevent homelessness and support customers to sustain their tenancies.
- Work with social services, health and social care professionals, support organisations, landlords and other agencies to help customers become tenancy ready.
- Follow safeguarding procedures and ensure vulnerable customers receive appropriate support.
- Provide ongoing housing advice, assistance and signposting based on individual circumstances.
- Take ownership of customer queries and work with colleagues and stakeholders to resolve issues effectively.
What We're Looking For
The successful candidate will have one of the following:
- A Level 6 qualification or equivalent, plus at least 1 year's relevant experience in a customer support environment; or
- A Level 5 BTEC Higher Certificate/Diploma in Housing, plus at least 1 year's relevant customer support experience; or
- A Level 5 qualification or equivalent, plus at least 2 years' relevant customer support experience; or
- Equivalent professional development or experiential learning, plus at least 3 years' relevant customer support experience.
You will also need:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong customer service and stakeholder management skills.
- Good problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent planning and organisational skills.
- The ability to manage and prioritise a challenging workload.
- The ability to communicate effectively with customers and professionals in challenging situations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- A current driving licence or access to suitable transport to meet the requirements of the role.
