About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Information Governance Officer (Data Protection) to work closely with the Records Manager/Data Protection Officer, you will provide advice and guidance to staff, support data protection compliance across the organisation, and contribute to the development of policies, procedures and best practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide advice and guidance on data protection, personal data sharing and information governance.
- Support Subject Access Requests, Freedom of Information and Environmental Information Regulations requests.
- Assist with investigating personal data breaches and identifying trends and recommendations.
- Support the maintenance of the corporate personal data register and privacy notices.
- Monitor compliance with data protection policies, standards and procedures.
- Assist with reviewing legislative changes and updating policies and procedures.
- Provide data protection training and awareness to staff and elected members.
- Prepare performance information, statistics and reports for senior management.
- Deputise for senior information governance colleagues when required.
Essential Criteria
- Knowledge and understanding of Data Protection Act 2018 and UK GDPR requirements.
- Knowledge of information governance and associated legislation.
- Experience providing advice and guidance on data protection matters.
- Strong analytical, organisational and communication skills.
- Ability to interpret legislation and contribute to policies and procedures.
- Ability to work effectively with colleagues across an organisation.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience working within a public sector or local government environment.
- Experience dealing with Subject Access Requests, Freedom of Information or Environmental Information Regulations requests.
- Experience investigating and managing personal data breaches.
- Experience delivering data protection training and awareness.
- Experience maintaining data protection registers, privacy notices and compliance records.
- Experience preparing compliance reports, statistics and performance information.
- Experience deputising for or supporting a Data Protection Officer or senior Information Governance professional.
