Surface Finish Supervisor

Staffline Ireland are recruiting for a Surface Finish Supervisor on behalf of an industry leader in Uk's & Irelands Building Services sector.

The Surface Finish Supervisor is responsible for leading, motivating and developing the paint and shot blasting teams to deliver high-quality work safely, on time and to plan. The role focuses heavily on people management, team building, daily planning, workflow control and achieving production deadlines while maintaining high standards of health & safety, quality and housekeeping. They will act as the link between production management and shop-floor teams, ensuring clear communication, strong performance culture and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities:

People Management & Team Leadership

  • Lead, supervise and motivate the paint and blast teams to achieve daily and weekly production targets.
  • Create a positive team culture focused on safety, quality, accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Carry out daily toolbox talks, briefings and shift handovers.
  • Manage attendance, timekeeping, discipline and performance in line with company procedures.
  • Conduct probation reviews, annual appraisals and return-to-work interviews.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding and training of new team members.
  • Own and maintain the team training matrix and competency records.
  • Identify skills gaps and support development plans, mentoring and cross-training.
  • Resolve conflict fairly and professionally.
  • Encourage teamwork, engagement and ownership across the department.

Planning & Production Control

  • Plan daily and weekly workloads in line with production schedules and delivery deadlines.
  • Allocate labour and resources efficiently to maximise productivity and minimise downtime.
  • Monitor progress throughout the shift and adjust priorities where required.
  • Ensure materials, consumables and equipment are available ahead of work.
  • Lead short-interval control including daily KPI boards, SQCDP meetings and visual management.
  • Liaise closely with production planning, quality, engineering and logistics teams.
  • Maintain accurate production records and report performance against plan.

Quality & Standards

  • Ensure all blasting and painting activities meet customer specifications, quality standards and inspection requirements.
  • Promote right-first-time workmanship and reduce rework.
  • Carry out regular quality checks and audits.
  • Support internal and customer audits.
  • Drive housekeeping and 5S standards within the work areas.

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure all activities comply with site health & safety rules, COSHH, DSEAR and safe systems of work.
  • Carry out risk assessments, method statement reviews and permit compliance where required.
  • Promote safe behaviours and intervene where unsafe acts are observed.
  • Investigate near misses and incidents and implement corrective actions.
  • Participate in safety audits and safety committee activities where required.
  • Ensure PPE compliance and equipment inspections are maintained.

Essential requirements:

  • Proven supervisory or team leadership experience in a manufacturing, fabrication, paint or blasting environment.
  • Strong people management, conflict resolution and communication skills.
  • Ability to plan, prioritise and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Good understanding of health & safety requirements in an industrial environment.
  • Experience using basic people systems (timesheets, absence systems, training matrices).
  • Ability to lead by example and build a high-performing team.
  • Basic IT skills for reporting and planning.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is essential

Desirable Criteria:

  • Knowledge of surface preparation, blasting standards and industrial coatings
  • IOSH or equivalent safety qualification
  • Lean / continuous improvement experience
  • Forklift, MEWP or crane awareness

Working Hours: Monday-Thursday 7am-5pm and Friday 7am-3pm
