Job description

Our client, a leading provider of renewable energy solutions, is seeking a Project Engineer - Mechanical to lead the design, development, and implementation of biomass boiler heating projects. This role focuses on projects supported by SEAI's Support Scheme for Renewable Heat (SSRH) and involves technical design, project management, compliance adherence, and client interaction to deliver renewable energy systems efficiently and effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

1. System Design

  • Develop detailed designs for biomass boiler heating systems, including schematics, layouts, and technical specifications for comprehensive technical submittals.
  • Optimise designs for cost-effectiveness and reliability while meeting client requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, environmental regulations, and SSRH guidelines.
  • Prepare project costings to support the sales team and maintain an up-to-date internal costing tool.

2. Technology Integration

  • Integrate auxiliary systems such as feedstock handling, heat exchangers, heat meters, and building management systems (BMS).
  • Select and size equipment, including pumps, heat exchangers, and pipework.

3. Software Tools

  • Utilise CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and simulation tools for system designs.
  • Demonstrate strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and project management tools.

4. Heating System Assembly

  • Provide technical supervision for heating system assembly, both on-site and at the company's workshop.

5. Project Management

  • Develop and manage project timelines, milestones, and budgets.
  • Collaborate with procurement and manufacturing teams to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Oversee installation and commissioning, troubleshoot technical issues, and ensure adherence to health and safety requirements.
  • Prepare project documentation, including design reports, technical manuals, and test records.

6. Stakeholder Interaction

  • Liaise with clients to understand project requirements, provide technical guidance, and deliver weekly updates throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Work with suppliers to source quality components and materials while managing costs.

7. Compliance and Regulations

  • Ensure designs meet regulatory requirements and conduct risk assessments with mitigation strategies.

Qualifications and Skills:

Educational Background

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Energy Systems, or a related field.
  • Project Management qualifications are desirable.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in CAD/Revit and simulation tools.
  • Expertise in calculating system requirements, including pumps, heat exchangers, boilers, and pipe sizing.
  • Familiarity with biomass boiler systems and SEAI's SSRH guidelines is a strong advantage.

Experience

  • 3-5 years in project management and design of hot water heating systems or similar projects.
  • Experience with renewable energy and biomass systems is a plus.

Soft Skills

  • Strong problem-solving abilities and multitasking under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective client and team engagement.
