LOADING BAY MANAGER
This is a permanent, full-time position - 39 hours per week.
The Loading Bay Manager is responsible for overseeing the receiving, storage of raw materials and the handling and dispatch of high-end hospitality furniture. This role ensures efficient operations within the loading bay and stores, managing dispatches for on-time project delivery. The position requires a hands-on approach to supervising staff, co-ordinating shipments and optimising workflows to meet business needs in
the hospitality industry.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Manage the loading of furniture efficiently to ensure items remain undamaged.
- Inspect furniture for damages or defects before loading.
- Address discrepancies in materials delivery and liaise with admin and suppliers for replacements.
- Maintain a well-organised schedule to avoid delays in the loading bay.
- Ensure proper handling of fragile and heavy items using appropriate equipment if necessary.
- Work with production team to plan deliveries, according to site readiness and deadline requirements.
- Lead a team of loading bay operatives to ensure timely order fulfilment.
- Assign tasks and monitor team performance.
- Co-ordinate inbound and outbound deliveries with delivery drivers and production team.
- Conduct risk assessments and maintain compliance with local regulations
- Conduct stock takes, ensuring accurate inventory levels and working with the procurement team to address stock discrepancies and replacements.
- Maintain records of furniture movement within factory and stores.
- Ensure the cleanliness and organisation of the loading bay area.
- Oversee the maintenance of loading bay equipment and report any faults.
Additional Responsibilities may include:
- Travel to client sites to assist in furniture installations and/or inspections
- Assisting with furniture assembly and minor repairs before dispatch.
- Supporting showroom/sales team with stock for client visits.
- Working overtime to meet project deadlines.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Previous experience in warehouse/loading bay management, preferably in furniture handling.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with strict deadlines and exposure to loading docks, transport vehicles and heavy equipment.
- Attention to detail is a must.
- Physical requirement - requires liaising, moving and handling large furniture pieces.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Ability to operate or oversee warehouse machinery.
- Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills to liaise with department teams and management.
- Manual Handling certified (bonus but not necessary).
- Forklift licence (bonus but not necessary).
- Lorry licence (bonus but not necessary).
