Our Client, A Large Public Sector Organisation based in Garvagh require a Fitness Instructor to join their team.

Role : Fitness Instructor

Locations : Garvagh

Hours of work : Casual hours 2pm - 9pm Monday - Saturday

Hourly Rate : 1 -12 weeks £11.91 13 weeks + £12.59

Main Purpose of Post

  • Provide instruction and supervision of the gym/fitness suite and provide effective, efficient high quality fitness programmes tailored to users of the facility.

  • Positively support management and colleagues and assist in the provision of customer focused service delivery.

  • In order to respond to service priorities and to facilitate professional development, be flexible to provide cover in any related duty within Sport & Wellbeing (for which training has been or will be provided) and be required to work flexibly across the Council area.

  • Ensure that the department complies with all statutory and legislative requirements by adhering to these requirements and working in accordance with good governance and health and safety requirements.

  • Ensure that all responsibilities are carried out in a timely and effective manner and that general confidentiality is maintained in all areas relating to the work of the Council.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Service Delivery

  • In line with levels of training, qualifications and required role(s), prepare, demonstrate, deliver and supervise tailored, high-level fitness programmes for individual customers and group fitness classes as required, ensuring that they are motivational and relevant to both the client's goals and objectives and the needs of the service.
  • Deliver inductions to new customers, providing up to date instruction in all aspects of fitness including correctly demonstrating suitable exercises, conducting fitness testing and providing advice and programme guidance. Monitor and correct technique when required and provide guidance on suitably progressive exercises.
  • Dependant on level of qualification and through consultation and guidance with Exercise Referral Coordinators, assist in the development of health, wellbeing and interventions (such as the GP Referral Scheme).
  • Knowledge of and adherence to standard operating procedures including all Council and Centre policies/procedures and emergency action plans relevant to each facility

  • Provide advice regarding all facilities, activities, memberships, promotions and prices and actively assist in increasing memberships by providing prospective members with up-to-date information on services and membership packages and helping to up-sell services/related products.
  • Maintaining a high standard of cleanliness, hygiene and safety in the gym/fitness suite (including facilities and equipment). Report any defects or damage to equipment or building to appropriate personnel in order to ensure problems are dealt with and do not pose a risk to other employees and/or customers.
  • Responsible for ensuring accidents / incidents, including administering first aid are dealt with efficiently and promptly while accurately recording details. Inform line manager(s) of all such incidents.
  • Carry out administrative duties in relation to activity programmes (as deemed appropriate). Maintain and file confidential customer records in relation to health questionnaires and programmes.
  • Following adequate training, assist with the safe handling, erecting, dismantling and storage of equipment as required, ensuring all equipment is checked and safe for use.

General

  • By its nature the post will require flexible working to meet the needs of the service
  • Attend work related training, seminars and workshops as required and keep required qualifications up to date.
  • Act in accordance with the Code of Conduct for local Government employees.
  • Comply with and actively promote the Council's policies and procedures, including those relating to Fair employment, Equal Opportunities, and Health, Safety and Wellbeing.
  • Undertake the duties outlined above in a way which will enhance and protect the reputation and public profile of the Council.
  • Undertake any other duties as deemed appropriate to the achievement of the purpose and function of this post.

Essential Criteria

  • A Valid Level 2 Fitness Instructor Qualification
  • A minimum of one group-based Exercise Instruction Qualification

or

  • A commitment to obtain completion of Level 3 Exercise Referral within 6 months of appointment

And

  • A minimum of 1 years experience working as a Fitness Instructor within a leisure / fitness facility
