Farm Assistant

Location: North Down area, Northern Ireland
Salary: £25,681
Hours: 37.5 hours per week (rota over 7 days, with enhanced weekend rates)
Contract: Permanent

About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Farm Assistant to join a vibrant and purpose-led rural community supporting adults through meaningful work and connection with nature.

In this role, you'll work closely with the Farm Manager to help oversee the day-to-day running of a diverse, organically managed farm. From livestock care to grassland management, you'll play a key role in maintaining high welfare and environmental standards - while supporting the community's ethos of respect, inclusion, and sustainability.


Key Responsibilities

As Farm Assistant, you will:

  • Support the Farm Manager in daily farm operations, ensuring all activities reflect person-centred values and high welfare standards.

  • Assist with livestock management including animal health, feeding, breeding, and welfare checks.

  • Take part in grassland and soil management, tractor work, and general maintenance of farm equipment and buildings.

  • Help uphold organic certification standards and support inspections and record-keeping.

  • Promote health and safety across the farm environment and ensure compliance with relevant policies.

  • Deputise for the Farm Manager when required, ensuring smooth running of all farm enterprises.

  • Contribute to training, meetings, and the ongoing development of new farm activities or projects.


About You

You're practical, reliable, and love working outdoors. You have genuine care for animals and people, and a willingness to learn and work as part of a team that values integrity, respect, and community.

Essential Criteria:

  • Level 2 qualification in Agriculture or 3+ years' relevant experience in a farming or agricultural setting.

  • Minimum 2 years' experience driving tractors and working with livestock.

  • Full, clean driving licence (valid in the UK & Ireland) and access to a vehicle.

  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills.

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Trailer, forklift, or loader licence.

  • Experience in organic or sustainable farming.

  • Animal husbandry and calving experience.

  • Agricultural fencing and maintenance skills.
