Our client, are currently seeking to recruit a Employability Officer to join their team in Belfast.

The pay rate is £13.47 per hour plus Holiday pay

The position is temporary ongoing.

Working Tuesday, Wednesdays and Thursdays, total 22.5 hours per week

About the Job Role:

Our client are seeking staff to provide specialist disability support to young people who require assistance whilst participating on the Skills for Life and Work, Training for Success and/or Apprenticeships NI Programme.

This role also requires staff to undertake administrative duties to ensure their records of support are accurate, completed and returned timeously.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Core Duties

  • Organise work placements and support participants in the work placement process. Familiarity with the industries and placement areas in, Administration, Bricklaying, Catering, Childcare, Hairdressing, IT, Joinery, Play Work, and Retail. This knowledge may help in providing more tailored support to participants seeking placements in these fields.
  • Prepare participants for interviews/introductory meetings with potential new employers and accompany them to these.
  • Prepare participants for their first day on placement to ensure they know what is expected of them and what they can do to make the right start.
  • Provide mentoring support to participants as and when required.
  • Organise and attend placement visits to monitor the progress of participants and deal effectively with any issues/concerns that arise.
  • Assist the DSS Co-ordinator with the monitoring and evidencing of progress against Performance Targets set.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records that support effective ongoing monitoring and review of own support provided and raise any immediate issues or concerns with line manager.
  • Ensure the following is completed:
    • DSS10s to be signed by trainee and tutor/manager and returned to the DSS admin team on a weekly basis for checking.
    • Staff engagement notes to be uploaded to the DSS APP before close of business each Friday to allow for checking by the following Monday.
    • 8/10/13 week trainee reviews (due dates to be advised by training provider).
    • Referral paperwork (DSS5) - Part B only (as and when required by training provider).
    • Consent Forms - to be signed at point of completion of the DSS5 and scanned to DSS admin team.

Please Note: DSS staff are not to carry out any teaching or programme delivery instead of the training provider, rather the training provider to lead / teach and the DSS staff member to provide additional disability support.

  • Ensure that all safeguarding procedures are followed as outlined in the safeguarding manual.

Skills and Competencies

Competencies

· Knowledge of directly supporting people with disabilities within an employment, education, or employment & training setting (D)

· The ability to work with a wide cross-section of participants with varying levels of support needs (D)

· Highly competent in using ICT with excellent working knowledge of MS Office Suite to include Sharepoint, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint (E)

Technical competencies (qualifications and training)

· Educated to NVQ Level 2 or equivalent to include Maths and English. (E)

· Good IT skills - to present data using Microsoft packages or suitable alternative (E)

Experience

· Candidates should have experience in the work areas they are tasked with finding placements in e.g. Joinery that demonstrates an understanding of the challenges and requirements of the position (E)

· Candidates must demonstrate ability to perform administrative tasks to a high standard under minimal supervision (E)

· Candidates must have excellent communication skills and extensive knowledge of the industries they are placing trainees in to (E)

· Candidates with previous experience of learning support would be preferable (D)

· Highly organised professional with evidence of developing relationships with participants (E)

· Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team (E)

· Employability Officers should be proactive and able to structure their workload effectively to provide support to participants. This role may involve working independently from home, so self-motivation and time management skills are important (E)

· Ability to effectively report progress on KPI's and progress participants through their qualifications within the timeframes set (E)

· Ability to manage a busy workload and prioritise to ensure all requirements are met (E)

· Ability to complete all paperwork, and reports timeously (E)

Personal qualities, communicating and relating to others

· Flexible, adaptable and innovative (D)

· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (E)

· A deep understanding of the barriers faced by individuals with learning disabilities (D)

· Strong 1:1 mentoring, and motivational skills and the ability to engage with participants to encourage them to take positive actions toward employment (E)

· Be able to display an awareness, understanding and commitment to the protection and safeguarding of children, young people and adults (E)
