Our Client, A Large Public Sector Organisation based in Antrim require a Economic Development Manager to join their team.

Hours of work : 37hrs per week - Monday to Friday

Hourly Rate : £25.79

Main Duties :

  • Advise the Heads of Service on all matters relevant to the work of the service.
  • Assist the Heads of Service in securing investment and jobs for the borough. Provide assistance and advice to those interested in investing in the Borough and support the owners and managers of existing land and premises with a particular focus on regeneration, working closely with other support partners.
  • Establish and develop effective partnerships with relevant government Departments, statutory agencies, including Invest Northern Ireland, other local government authorities and public or private partners who can contribute to the development of the local economy within the Borough.
  • Develop the Council's role as the lead facilitator in co-ordinating local responses to business needs and supporting and promoting the economic development of the Borough and to maximise input and participation from the social economy and private sectors.
  • Provide a leading role in the development and implementation of strategic regeneration and investment projects
  • Lead in the identification of trends, opportunities and barriers to growth and regeneration in the Borough and research, design, promote and implement new policy initiatives to address these, which in turn enable the Council to compete for investment at a local, regional and global level
  • Contribute to the development, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and updating of annual business plans for the Economic Development Section
  • Represent and promote the opportunities within the Council area by being a professional and competent ambassador for the area, building effective networks and linking key individuals and organisations to achieve the long term economic goals for the Borough
  • Manage Section staff, as required, through the Council's performance management process to ensure the efficient, effective and safe provision of service excellence to customers
  • Identify, develop and maintain contact with external funding sources with a view to securing maximum levels of external funding and investment for the Borough including the exploration of joint financing initiatives.
  • To carry out any other duties which may arise from time to time commensurate with the status of the post as requested by the Heads of Service and to assist in the proper administration of Council services.

Essential Criteria :

  • A degree in Business, Management, Economics, Town Planning, Planning, Urban Development, Finance, Regeneration or any other relevant qualification. OR Consideration may be given to those candidates who do not hold the above academic qualifications but who can demonstrate a minimum of four years relevant experience as outlined below.
  • At least 2 years' experience in an economic role to include all the following
  • Managing staff, contracts and budget for the achievement of economic development, investment or regeneration projects
  • Managing programmes including the implementation, review and monitoring of largescale economic development initiatives.
  • Developing strategy and implementing policy in a team-working context.
  • Experience of building strong and positive relationships with the business community and working with business organisations.
  • Good planning and project management skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work on own initiative and prioritise workload to meet strict deadlines.
  • Displays a positive attitude including a solution based, flexible and enthusiastic approach.
  • Maintain a high standard of quality and accuracy.
  • Creative and innovative to deliver service improvements.
  • A working knowledge of economic development, investment attraction and strategic regeneration in a Northern Ireland context.
  • Current working knowledge of funding opportunities within Northern Ireland, the UK region and further afield which are relevant to the economic growth of the borough.
  • A working knowledge of social, economic, and political policies related to economic development.
  • Full current driving licence and access to a form of transport to enable the duties of the post to be carried out in full.

Desirable Criteria :
