Corporate Health and Safety Advisor

Location: Belfast

Hours of work: Monday - Friday / 9am - 5pm (37.5 hours p/w)

Salary: £18.06 p/h

Duration: Temporary ongoing

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Corporate Health & Safety Advisor to join our client, a large public sector organisation. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring compliance with health and safety policies, statutory requirements, and best practices across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, review, and promote Health & Safety policies and procedures.
  • Conduct workplace inspections, audits, and risk assessments, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements.
  • Deliver Health & Safety training, ensuring employees are equipped with the knowledge to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Investigate and report incidents, including RIDDOR reportable cases, and liaise with statutory bodies.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance on Health & Safety legislation, risk management, and safe working practices.
  • Support Health & Safety Committees, liaising with trade unions and internal stakeholders to resolve concerns.
  • Assist with the development of business cases and tender specifications related to Health & Safety.
  • Maintain accurate records, contribute to performance reports, and ensure compliance with key performance indicators.

Essential Criteria:

Applicants must demonstrate the following:

  • A degree (Level 6 or equivalent) in Occupational Health and Safety or be actively progressing through a Level 6 course (completion within 12 months required).
  • Three years' relevant experience in a Health & Safety Advisor/Officer role.
  • Membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) relevant to qualifications and experience.
  • Significant experience in:
  • Developing and reviewing Health & Safety policies, risk assessments, and procedures.
  • Reporting and investigating incidents, including liaising with HSENI.
  • Conducting workplace inspections, writing reports, and action plan monitoring.
  • Designing and delivering Health & Safety training.
  • Strong planning, organisational, interpersonal, and communication skills (assessed at interview).
  • A valid driving licence or access to transport to meet the travel requirements of the role.
