Our client, a large Public Sector Organisation requires a Community Equipment Assistant based in Ballymena.
Role: Community Equipment Assistant
Location: Ballymena
Hours of work: 37½ hrs per week,
Hourly Rate: £11.45 per hour
LOCATION OF POST:
Ballymena
MAIN PURPOSE:
To participate in the general cleaning of all equipment brought back into Community Equipment Service for recycling within the Community. The post-holder will also be required to assist Storemen/Drivers with the delivery of equipment to client's home throughout the Trust geographical area.
There will be frequent periods of moderate effort for short periods lifting and carrying cumbersome equipment.
There will also be a requirement to handle equipment (using safe working practices) that may have been infected with biological agents i.e. MRSA.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Thoroughly cleanse and decontaminate community care appliances using cleaning products and materials, to ensure minimum standards of cleanliness/infection control are met
- Diagnose and rectify minor faults in equipment and report any faults that cannot be rectified to Maintenance Supervisor.
- Liaise with Maintenance Supervisor in relation to whether equipment should be condemned.
- Accurately record barcodes/asset numbers for items moving through the Decontamination process.
- Ensure that Decontamination area is kept neat and tidy and that floors are cleaned weekly as per service protocols.
- Assist service users who call to the Department when returning equipment in a polite manner and ensure that an accurate record is kept of all equipment returned.
- Observe the confidentiality of patient information at all times.
- Maintain a clean and tidy appearance wearing the protective clothing and footwear provided.
- Make up cleaning materials for use on equipment in conjunction with COSHH guidelines
- Assist with the unloading of dirty equipment from Trust vehicles
- Remove equipment to associated skips applying the correct moving and handling techniques.
- Observe safe working methods in relation to machinery, materials and equipment and report defective items as required.
- Participate in stock takes as and when required to ensure accuracy of stock levels.
- Provide assistance to Trust Drivers in the collection/delivery of equipment to clients homes
- Undertake training courses, including "in house" or "off the job" to maintain levels of awareness and responsibilities of the post.
- Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time

EXPERIENCE:
6 months experience in a service based environment working with others
OTHER:
To be available, as required, at weekends and out of hours to respond to emergency situations and to spot check the service.
There is a requirement to work flexibly across a seven day week including weekends and bank holidays as required.
KEY SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Ability to communicate clearly and verbally
- Ability to work effectively both independently as part of a team
- Ability to cope with difficult situations in a calm and professional manner.
KNOWLEDGE:
- Knowledge of the role of Community Equipment Assistant
