My client a leading public sector organisation based in Belfast is currently seeking a Full-Time Assistant Psychologist.

Hours: 8-4; At least 3 days pw. Also could be subject to change eg 1 long day per week but to be negotiated when in post

Pay: £13.57 per hour

ROLE SUMMARY / MAIN PURPOSE:

To develop a means of reviewing complex cases, summarising case histories in general and specifying in detail patient journeys into AMHIC. To assist in clinically related administration, audit, teaching, research and project work. To research and create materials for a psychological interventions and carry own caseload for individual, low intensity, psychotherapeutic work under close supervision. On a weekly basis to provide support to qualified clinical psychologists/psychological therapists to support and enhance the psychological care of patients at AMHIC.

Main Duties & Key Responsibilities

Audit/Research

  • To assist in the implementation of complex case reviews, clinical audit and research projects as directed by clinical lead or those deputising for
  • To assist in clinically related administration as required and as relevant to the post.
  • To undertake data collection, analysis, and the production of reports and summaries, using IT and statistical programs.
  • To undertake searches and summaries of evidence-based literature and research, to support qualified staff in delivering evidence-based therapies and work with other members of the service.

Clinical

  • To undertake psychological assessments including the use of psychometric tools, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in client's care.
  • To assist in the formulation and delivery of care plans involving the psychological treatment and/or management of a client's problems, under the supervision of a qualified Psychologist and as required
  • To assist in the coordination, running and leading of therapeutic groups under supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist as required
  • To attend and contribute to appropriate multi-disciplinary meetings.
  • To provide clinical work as required by the service at the direct guidance of the clinical lead (or those deputising) and under clinical and professional supervision of a qualified psychologist.
  • To assist qualified psychologists in the delivery of a specialist applied psychology service in the Belfast Trust.
  • To receive regular clinical supervision in accordance with professional practice guidelines from a qualified Psychologist.
  • To provide a flexible service, the post-holder may be required to work outside usual hours should the need arise.
  • To travel to sites as appropriate and across the Trust when required.

Management

  • To assist in the design and implementation of service development projects within the service, as required.
  • To attend meetings in which service developments are planned and discussed as required

Administration

  • To ensure that all work that is recorded is own work as required by procedures of the Acute Psychology Team
  • To maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping and report writing in accordance with professional codes of practice of the British Psychological Society and Trust policies and procedures.
  • To work with local managers and professional colleagues to maximise efficiency and effectiveness in service delivery as directed and required
  • To comply with Acute Psychological Therapies Team, Board, Trust and Directorate policies and procedures.
  • To undertake specific administrative duties as required.

Teaching/Supervision

  • To receive regular clinical professional supervision from a senior clinical psychologist and, as required, by other senior external psychologists.
  • To develop skills and competencies that assist in the delivery of current duties.
  • To contribute to the training and support of other staff in psychological care only as directed by the Consultant Lead Clinical Psychologist
  • To contribute to the development and maintenance of the highest professional standards of practice, through active participation in internal and external CPD training and development programs, in consultation with the post-holder's professional and service manager(s)

➢ The post holder will promote and support effective and flexible team working within the psychology team, fostering a culture of openness and transparency. The post holder will ensure that they take all concerns raised with them seriously and act in accordance with the BHSCT Raising Concerns Policy and their professional code of conduct, where applicable.

Essential Criteria

Ideally no more than 6-8 criteria in this section

Experience of working with adults with mental health difficulties for at least 1 year

First or Upper Second Honours degree or other higher degree in psychology or equivalent accredited Conversion Course. Eligibility for graduate membership of the British Psychological Society (BPS)

SECTION 2: The following are ESSENTIAL criteria which will be measured during the interview/ selection stage:

Experience of delivering whole or parts of clinical interventions with individuals

Able to be flexible, adapt approach according to need, and innovate based on theoretical knowledge.

Able to provide & receive highly complex, sensitive or contentious information in a highly emotive and sometimes hostile atmosphere, in a range of relationships and settings.

An ability to interact effectively with staff from all disciplines and within a multidisciplinary team.

Able to plan, organise and prioritise own workload independently under direction of a senior psychologist.

Adherence to BPS/DCP Professional Guidelines regardless of membership.

Knowledge

Able to record and report on as required clinical information.

Competent in use of basic IT packages - word processing, e-mail and internet.

Graduate level knowledge of research design, methodology and analysis

Ability to manage clinical case reviews requiring accuracy and detail
