Legal Officer

Salary: £22.65 p/h

Location: Belfast

Hours: 9am - 5pm, Mon - Fri / 37 hours per week

Start date: ASAP

Duration: Up to 6 Months

Job Summary:

  • The post holder supports the Head of Legal and Advocacy to deliver the organisation's casework and legal affairs.
  • The Legal Officer works closely with the Commissioner, Chief Executive, Head of Legal and Advocacy, and stakeholder organisations and it is therefore imperative that effective working relationships are developed and fostered.
  • The Legal Officer is expected to contribute effectively to the achievement of organisational goals and objectives by providing and overseeing the Commission's function of case review. The post holder will also be expected to contribute significantly to broader organisational objectives based on their involvement and responsibilities for policy/procedural review, continuous improvement, research & development, and stakeholder focus.

Essential Criteria:

  • Possess a degree in law or a degree in legal studies of which law is the major component accompanied by another subject.
  • Be qualified as a solicitor entitled to practice in Northern Ireland or in a position to become so entitled by the date of appointment.
  • Have at least 3 years' post qualification experience within the last 5 years in at least two of the following areas: constitutional law, administrative law, contract law, employment law, civil litigation, human rights law, family law.
