Despatch Operative / Van Sales Driver

The Role

We are currently recruiting for a Despatch Operative / Van Sales Driver to join a busy food production and distribution operation.

This is a varied and flexible role, combining responsibility for the accurate and efficient despatch of customer orders with providing cover for Van Sales Drivers during busy periods, annual leave and other operational requirements.

You will play an important role in ensuring customer orders are prepared accurately, delivered safely and presented to a high standard, while maintaining excellent food safety, quality and health & safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

Despatch

• Receive and prepare customer orders accurately and efficiently.
• Pick, check and assemble orders, ensuring the correct paperwork accompanies each delivery.
• Check product specifications and temperature requirements.
• Complete despatch temperature records and report any issues.
• Liaise with Production, Administration, Stock Control, Quality and other departments regarding orders and queries.
• Follow food safety, HACCP, traceability and quality procedures.
• Carry out stock checks and maintain accurate records.
• Operate despatch machinery safely following appropriate training.
• Maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment.
• Carry out manual handling duties and work in chilled conditions.
• Report any food safety, quality, maintenance or health & safety concerns promptly.

Van Sales / Delivery Cover

• Provide cover for Van Sales Drivers during busy periods, annual leave and absence.
• Deliver products safely and efficiently to customers.
• Ensure customer orders are accurate and delivered on time.
• Stock and merchandise products at customer locations to a high standard.
• Develop positive and professional relationships with customers.
• Promote products and introduce new product lines where appropriate.
• Handle customer payments where required.
• Complete delivery paperwork and maintain accurate records.
• Carry out vehicle checks and report any issues.
• Comply with road traffic legislation and all company health & safety, food safety and quality procedures.
• Represent the business professionally when dealing with customers.

What We're Looking For

• Full Irish or EU driving licence with the relevant licence category for van driving.
• Previous experience in despatch, food production, manufacturing or FMCG is desirable.
• Forklift experience is desirable, although training can be provided.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy, quality and safety.
• Good communication and basic numeracy skills.
• Ability to complete paperwork accurately and handle customer payments where required.
• Friendly, courteous and customer-focused approach.
• Reliable, flexible and willing to work across different duties as required.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
