About the Role

Staffline Recruitment is currently seeking an experienced Design, Manufacturing and Production Engineer (R&D) on behalf of a leading manufacturing organisation based in Ballymena.

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled engineer to join an innovative and growing business, working on the development of new and existing products from initial concept through to market-ready solutions.

The successful candidate will play a key role in product development, prototyping, manufacturing support, and continuous improvement activities. Working closely with engineering and production teams, you will provide hands-on technical support, develop manufacturing processes, produce CAD/CAM drawings, and assist with prototype development.

The role also offers the opportunity to gain valuable experience working with advanced CNC manufacturing technology, supporting the commissioning, optimisation, and ongoing development of newly installed machinery.

Hours: 4-day working week - Monday to Thursday, 6:00am to 4:30pm

Key Responsibilities

• Support production through the creation and development of CAD and CAM files for new and existing products.

• Design, develop, and test products to meet requirements including safety, reliability, performance, and ease of manufacture.

• Produce detailed technical drawings for customers, suppliers, and internal production teams.

• Develop and improve manufacturing processes using LEAN principles.

• Create and update standard operating procedures for production operators.

• Maintain and improve parametric CAD models for product ranges.

• Assist with prototype manufacturing and product development activities.

• Source components and materials for new and existing products.

• Maintain project documentation, including Bills of Materials (BOMs).

• Work closely with production operators to implement product improvements and updates.

• Support continuous improvement initiatives within the manufacturing environment.

• Assist with the optimisation and development of CNC punching and press brake manufacturing processes.

Essential Criteria

• Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.

• Experience in CAD, CAM, product design, and stress analysis.

• Minimum 2 years' experience in a Design Engineering role.

• Experience using Solid Edge, Lantek, or similar CAD/CAM software.

• Familiarity with Python within a CAD/CAM environment.

• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

• Excellent problem-solving skills with a practical approach to engineering challenges.

Desirable Experience

• Experience working with automation and robotics.

• Previous line management or team leadership experience.

• Knowledge of sheet metal fabrication, CNC punching, and CAM programming.

• Experience with parametric design using Solid Edge or similar 3D CAD software.

• Hands-on experience within a manufacturing environment.
