Design Engineer - Installation Equipment

Location: Galway

We are recruiting on behalf of a leading engineering and manufacturing organisation for an experienced Design Engineer to join a growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with strong mechanical design skills, experience using SolidWorks, and a background in manufacturing or tooling.

The Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for designing mechanical tooling and installation equipment while managing multiple engineering projects from initial concept through to manufacture, testing, and delivery. This position involves close collaboration with engineering, production, sales, and customers to deliver high-quality technical solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design mechanical tooling and installation equipment using SolidWorks.

  • Develop new products and improve existing designs.

  • Manage engineering projects from concept through to completion.

  • Produce and update technical drawings and engineering documentation.

  • Prepare project cost estimates and support quotations.

  • Coordinate manufacturing, assembly, testing, and delivery activities.

  • Support equipment installation and commissioning when required.

  • Maintain bills of materials (BOMs) and engineering records.

  • Work closely with internal teams and customers to deliver projects on time.

  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in design and manufacturing processes.

Requirements

  • Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.

  • 3-5 years' experience in mechanical design within a manufacturing environment.

  • Strong SolidWorks CAD skills.

  • Experience managing multiple engineering projects.

  • Good understanding of mechanical engineering principles.

  • Experience with tooling, CNC machining, manufacturing, or production processes is an advantage.

  • Strong organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

  • Willingness to travel occasionally within Europe.

Desirable Experience

  • Knowledge of automated equipment or industrial machinery.

  • Experience using engineering documentation systems.

  • Familiarity with engineering change processes and manufacturing databases.

  • Basic electrical or automation knowledge would be beneficial.
