Temporary (6 months)
The role: To support the Trust in the delivery of a high-quality service within the Transport Department. It is the policy of the Trust to meet its transport needs by means of a 'transport pool' system. Although drivers may be allotted specific vehicles and runs, they may be required to drive any of the Trust's vehicles from time to time subject to the requirements of the Road Traffic Act (NI) 1970 being complied with.
Responsibilities:
- Assist Service Users as necessary, e.g. preparation for transport and collect and convey Service Users to and from Trust Care facilities.
- Assist Service Users including those in wheelchairs and those using walking aids, up and down stairs, into and out of vehicles. Ensure service users travelling in wheelchairs are safely secured with the recommended restraint device.
- Assist service users on outings, e.g. pushing wheelchairs, helping those using walking aids etc.
- Assist in activities under the direction of the Facility Manager
- In an emergency/accident, the driver will seek help or notify the Social Services facility. Ensure that any injured passenger is taken immediately to hospital for medical examination, and complete and submit the relevant personal injury report to the Transport Controller as soon as possible.
- Provide immediate First Aid to passengers on the vehicle, as required.
- Assist in the evacuation of facilities in emergency situations, as required.
- Collect and convey service users to and from Social Services Centres, facilities, clubs and outings.
- Collect and deliver food supplies (including meals in containers) and materials including beds, bedding, parcels, furniture, equipment, CSSD supplies, pharmacy items, laundry, etc as required and be responsible for the loading, unloading and safe custody of all items carried. This includes obtaining the signature of the receiving officer as required.
- Participate in training courses arranged by the Trust.
- Participate in on-call rota arranged by the Trust, where required.
Essential Criteria:
- Experience in driving vehicles with more than 16 seats
- Hold a full current UK driving licence with a full PCV Category D Driving licence with no restrictions. (Full unrestricted Category D driving entitlement to drive a manually operated passenger-carrying vehicle with more than 16 seats)
- Have completed training for CPC qualification and hold a current Category D CPC card valid until 2026 OR if card expiry is before 2026, then evidence that 21 hours of CPC training has been completed.
- Effective communication skills to meet the needs of the post in full.
- Ability to accept responsibility, to use initiative and to be accountable.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as a team member.
- Flexible to work as and when required
- Ability to use own initiative.
- Successfully complete Trust Driving test
- Understand the care needs of people with physical or learning disabilities and older people.
- Knowledge of Southern Health and Social Care Trust Geographical Area
Desirable Criteria:
- Experience of working with older people or those with a physical or learning disability.
- Experience in operating a vehicle passenger lift.
Hours: Mon - Fri 37.5hrs
Hourly rate: £12.75
