Part-Time Site Inspector / Clerk of Works (Construction & M&E)
Location: Omeath, Co. Louth
Contract: Fixed-Term Contract
Working Pattern: 2 Days per Week
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Site Inspector / Clerk of Works to support the delivery of a school construction project in Omeath, Co. Louth. This is a part-time, fixed-term contract role requiring approximately two days per week on site.
The successful candidate will play a key role in monitoring construction quality, ensuring compliance with contract documents, and supporting coordination between contractors, consultants, and design teams. This role requires strong technical construction knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with project stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Liaise daily with Consultant Civil and Structural Engineers and the Main Contractor regarding site issues and clarifications.
- Inspect foundations and excavation works, reviewing logs and reporting progress to the Consultant Engineer.
- Check reinforcing bars prior to concrete pours and sign off accordingly.
- Conduct random survey measurements to verify correct setting out.
- Inspect structural steelwork, including connections, and complete sign-off procedures.
- Monitor the quality of concrete delivered to site, including standing times, slump tests, and water additions.
- Oversee compliance with specified Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) standards.
- Review the work of M&E subcontractors, ensuring appropriate materials and workmanship standards.
- Ensure effective coordination between mechanical/electrical services and construction works.
- Witness testing required by the contract or instructed by the Architect or M&E Consultant.
- Maintain detailed site diaries, records of drawings, weather conditions, instructions received, and relevant observations.
- Monitor variations, site changes, and issues that could affect project time, cost, or quality.
- Inspect materials delivered to site, ensuring compliance with project specifications.
- Attend site and progress meetings, escalating concerns or queries where required.
- Provide weekly progress reports with site photographs, documenting delays, workmanship quality, workforce numbers, and health & safety observations.
- Carry out regular inspections and prepare snag lists, completion lists, and schedules of defects at agreed stages of the project.
- Assist in preparing photographic dilapidation schedules for site boundaries and contractor access areas.
Requirements
- Extensive knowledge of building and construction technologies.
- Strong understanding of health & safety legislation and Building Regulations.
- Experience overseeing construction quality and compliance on site.
- Proven experience working on projects of similar scale, complexity, and value.
- Knowledge of Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) services coordination.
- Excellent communication, reporting, and organisational skills.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
- A qualification in a building, construction, or engineering discipline is desirable.
