SGB2 - Field Trials Assistant
Location: Crossnacreevy
Hours: Full-time, 30-35 hours per week (various contracts available)
Pay Rate: £13.41 per hour
About the Role
AFBI is seeking Field Trials Assistants to support its Plant Variety Evaluation Programmes at Crossnacreevy. These roles are a mix of field-based and laboratory-based duties, working primarily with grass, clover and/or cereal crops.
This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with outdoor fieldwork experience who are comfortable with manual tasks, data collection, and working as part of a scientific team. Full on-the-job training will be provided.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Assisting scientific staff with field trials
- Measuring, recording and collecting agronomic data
- Carrying out manual fieldwork in all weather conditions
- Data input and data management
- Supporting laboratory work and following set protocols (advantageous)
- Working to agreed deadlines
- Maintaining a clean, safe and organised working environment
- Ensuring high standards of quality and accuracy
The role requires a good level of physical fitness, including:
- Prolonged outdoor work
- Standing, walking, bending and stretching
- Manual handling of plant materials for analysis

Essential Criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- 5 GCSEs, including Maths and English
- Previous fieldwork experience
- Experience in data handling
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Full UK driving licence (access to a personal vehicle is preferable due to travel between locations)
