The Role: The Catering Supervisor will be responsible for ensuring that a high-quality catering service is provided and maintained.

Responsibilities

  • To lead a team in one or more of the following areas, dining room, coffee bar and patient meal service.
  • To audit, monitor and maintain acceptable levels of catering services in all areas of responsibility including agreeing action plans and ensuring outcomes are achieved.
  • To have knowledge and cater for any dietary requirements and ensure compliance in relation to allergens
  • To assist in the planning and supervision of work schedules to ensure that they are adhered to by staff.
  • To understand and adhere to HACCP and ensure accurate recording and monitoring of HACCP forms
  • To ensure quality is maintained regarding procedure, practices, portion control and presentation and to contribute to implementing new innovations and standards.
  • Ensure personal hygiene and food hygiene standards are achieved and maintained.
  • To report any issues regarding food quality to manager
  • To ensure correct and economical use of provisions, consumables and equipment.
  • To report any sightings of pests or infestations immediately to a manager.
  • To report and record all faults/defects in equipment/work environment, as appropriate, to the Head of Department/Estates/Assistant Manager immediately.
  • To report and record all accidents/incidents.
  • To ensure compliance with all Health and Safety/COSHH/Colour coding/Environmental Cleanliness/Waste Management/Food Hygiene Procedures and Food Safety Regulations (this includes the wearing of protective clothing).
  • To practice a good standard of hygiene in all aspects of work and maintain a high standard of personal hygiene for yourself and the team.
  • To complete Dining Room audits and take appropriate action.
  • To contribute ideas on staff menus, new product lines.
  • Participate in training of new staff and development of staff to ensure they are competent to undertake their duties.
  • To assist in the planning of duty rotas and organize cover as appropriate ensuring maximum use of resources.
  • To deal with telephone queries and take appropriate action as necessary
  • Cash handling duties when required
  • To assist in the management and recording of staff discipline, grievances and management of sickness absence.
  • To attend all mandatory and other training when scheduled and apply it to the job.
  • To participate in the handling of complaints in line with Trust policy.
  • To establish and maintain sound working relationships with Ward Manager/Heads of Departments.

Essential Criteria:

  • A minimum of 2 year's experience working in a customer/patient service role in either a Healthcare environment or the Hospitality Industry.
  • Willingness to undergo appropriate training including Level 2 aware in Food Safety in Catering.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety at work including COSHH regulations.
  • Ability to organise workload and prioritise duties.
  • Ability to accept responsibility, to use initiative, to be accountable and cope with difficult situations in a calm manner.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as a team member.
  • Effective communication skills to meet the needs of the post in full.
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Ability to supervise a team of staff.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience of working in an acute hospital
  • Level 2 award in Food Safety in Catering
  • Basic IT Skills

Hours of work: 37.5 hrs per week Monday-Friday 8am - 4pm

Hourly rate: £12.75 - £20.72 per hour
