Assistant Technical Officer

Band 2

Temporary - 4 months

The Role: The post holder will work as part of a team to provide a decontamination service to the wards and departments in the acute hospitals and to the GP surgeries/ community clinics in the Southern Trust Area.

Responsibilities

  • Clean, inspect, assemble, pack, seal, label and sterilise reusable medical devices for distribution to Theatres and wards and departments in the acute hospitals and to GP surgeries and community clinics throughout the Southern Trust area.
  • Operate washer disinfectors, sterilisers, heat sealers or any other equipment involved in the decontamination process.
  • Collect contaminated reusable medical devices and deliver sterile reusable medical devices to wards and departments within the acute hospitals
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures within the Sterile Services Department in accordance with BS EN ISO 13485:2016 and Medical Devices Directive 93/42/EEC.
  • Participate in on-going training required for the provision of a decontamination service within the Trust.
  • Responsible for the cleaning of equipment, workbenches / work surfaces within the Sterile Services Department
  • Work in all Sterile Services Departments within the Southern Trust as and when required
  • Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Hours of work: 37.5 hours per week, Monday- Friday, 8:15am- 4.30pm

Essential Criteria:

  • A minimum of 3 GCSEs at Grade A-C to include Mathematics and English
  • Previous experience of working within a Sterile Services Department.
  • Ability to meet high standards without constant instruction or supervision
  • Ability to keep up with the pace of work throughout the day
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to check and count items accurately and identify faults
  • Ability to tolerate work of a repetitive nature without performance slipping.
  • Willing to change or rotate jobs within the Sterile Services Department as required
