Job description

Grant Verification Officer | Public Sector | Sligo/Monaghan

At Staffline Recruitment we are currently working on behalf of a public sector body who are recruiting a Verification Officer to support the delivery, compliance, and accountability of a large-scale, publicly funded change and community development programme.

The Grant Verification Officer will play a key role in ensuring that funded projects are implemented, reported, and evidenced correctly in line with programme rules, funding conditions, and regulatory requirements. The role will involve both on-site and desk-based (remote) verifications across a diverse project portfolio.

The role can be based at offices in either Sligo or Monaghan and the successful candidate can avail of a flexible hybrid working model.

This is an excellent opportunity for a compliance, audit, or verification professional to contribute to high-impact programmes that deliver measurable social and economic benefits.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Support the Controller function in developing, maintaining, and documenting risk-based verification processes and procedures.
  • Plan, schedule, and carry out on-site and desk-based verifications of project activities, milestones, outputs, and deliverables.
  • Develop verification plans and checklists based on project risk profiles, milestone schedules, and expenditure claims.
  • Verify the correct application of approved Simplified Cost Options (SCOs), ensuring methodologies and assumptions are applied correctly.
  • Review financial and non-financial evidence to confirm alignment with approved applications and funding agreements.
  • Conduct site visits to validate reported activities and physical outputs.
  • Ensure all verification activity complies with regulatory, programme, and audit requirements.
  • Prepare accurate, timely verification reports, including recording findings in programme management systems.
  • Identify and document irregularities, ineligible expenditure, or non-compliance issues.
  • Provide clear, constructive feedback to funded organisations and support corrective actions where required.
  • Contribute to internal assurance reporting and audit readiness activities.
  • Support capacity-building initiatives such as workshops, peer learning, and one-to-one support where required.
  • Maintain accurate, secure records of all verification activity in line with audit and data protection standards.
  • Record findings in relevant databases and contribute to the development or improvement of systems, templates, and guidance.
  • Support quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Liaise effectively with internal teams, funded organisations, lead partners, managing authorities, and audit stakeholders.
  • Represent the programme professionally during on-site and remote verifications.
  • Communicate verification findings clearly, ensuring expectations and compliance requirements are understood.

Interested candidates will meet the following requirements:

  • Part-qualified or fully qualified professional accounting qualification or relevant third-level degree.
  • Demonstrable experience in audit, verification, compliance monitoring, or financial review of grant-funded or publicly funded projects.
  • Experience in designing, developing, or documenting audit or verification processes and procedures.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess financial and performance-based evidence.
  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and strong record-keeping skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, and financial or verification systems.
  • Experience working within EU-funded programmes is desirable.
  • Knowledge of EU funding rules, public funding compliance, or Simplified Cost Options (SCOs).
  • Relevant qualification in auditing, accounting, finance, or programme management (or equivalent experience).

This position will be offered as a three year fixed term contract with a salary scale that ranges from €58,848 - €74,112. The closing date for applications will be January 30th 2026 @ 12.00pm.
