The role holder will be reporting to Assistant Principal GRMU, supervising and supporting the risk management team in implementing organisational policy on Risk Management; developing the capacity of the organisation to effectively identify, evaluate and reduce risk.
Responsibilities and Duties include;
- Tasking, supervising and developing personnel attached to the GRMU.
- Conducting quality assurance reviews on risks submitted to the unit.
- Identifying areas for improvement and communicating these to relevant managers, supporting their capacity to effectively manage risk.
- Analysing risk data and trends to provide actionable insights and recommendations for senior management.
- Validating that the risk management framework is being applied effectively across the organisation, encouraging engagement with the risk management process across all business areas.
- Monitoring and reporting on risk management performance metrics.
- Championing Risk Management as a tool to support the effective management of a policing and security service.
- Communicating risk processes and policies, providing advice and guidance to internal stakeholders.
- Developing training materials, scheduling and delivering risk management workshops, presentations and briefings.
- Attending and actively participating in a range of meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
- Developing working relationships with relevant governance functions in AGS including Internal Audit, Planning and Professional Standards.
- Formalising appropriate replies to information requests, ensuring requests are responded to within relevant timeframes.
- Quality assuring reports drafted by GRMU staff.
- Supporting the Risk and Policy Committee and Audit and Risk Committee as requested.
- Proactively identifying areas for improvement and develop practical suggestions for implementation of same.
- Supporting the policy development process.
- Developing and maintaining a professional network, to support personal and organisational development.
Essential Criteria
- Minimum 3 years' experience working in the area of Risk Management, Internal Audit or similar Governance role.
- Demonstrate at least three years' experience at middle management* level in an office environment.
- High level communication and analysis skills.
- Evidence of delivering on innovation.
- Excellent IT skills, including experience in data analysis or audit software packages, and experience in complex organisational IT systems, including databases and management information systems.
* Middle management refers to roles that oversee larger teams or functions and report to senior leadership, i.e., department managers or heads of sections
Desirable Criteria
- 3rd level qualification in Governance/Risk
- Strong report preparation and presentation skills.
- Experience in more than one organisation, or experience outside of the Civil Service, or international experience (e.g. working abroad or significant engagement with international organisations and processes).
