Combined HGV / LGV Driver Loader

Location: Belfast
Pay: £14.35
Contract: Temporary
Working Pattern: Full-time, 37 hours per week (rota-based)

About the Role

Belfast City Council is seeking Combined HGV / LGV Driver Loaders to support waste collection, recycling, and streetscene operations across the city.

This is a hands-on operational role combining driving, loading, supervision, and frontline service delivery, ensuring high standards of cleanliness and environmental management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive and operate a range of HGV/LGV vehicles safely and efficiently
  • Collect waste, recycling, and compostable materials across assigned routes
  • Supervise and support operational teams during daily duties
  • Operate in-cab telematics, bin lifts, weighing equipment, and safety systems
  • Ensure correct segregation and disposal of waste and recyclables
  • Carry out street cleansing, gully emptying, and priority waste collection
  • Complete daily vehicle checks, defect reports, fuel and mileage records
  • Liaise with line management regarding routes, issues, and service delivery
  • Engage with the public in a professional and customer-focused manner
  • Support winter operations including snow clearance and gritting
  • Ensure full compliance with health & safety, tachograph, and operator licensing regulations

Essential Criteria

Applicants must, by the closing date:

  • Hold a full Category C driving licence valid in Northern Ireland
  • Hold a valid Driver CPC (Driver Qualification Card)
  • Demonstrate relevant experience in:
    • Driving in a commercial or public sector environment
    • Dealing directly with members of the public

Applicants must successfully pass a driving assessment prior to interview.
