This opportunity is with a long-established, highly respected law firm with over 200 professionals across offices in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. The firm is recognised for its breadth of expertise and its strong reputation across a wide range of specialist legal areas.
The Role: What You'll Be Doing
As an Assistant Accountant, you'll support the finance function across reporting, controls and compliance. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
Reporting & Analysis
- Assisting with monthly management accounts
- Supporting operational performance reporting (time, capacity & turnover analysis)
- Producing detailed nominal ledger reports for management
- Helping prepare statutory accounts and audit schedules
Compliance & Audit
- Ensuring strong internal control across finance processes
- Supporting statutory, regulatory and tax compliance (VAT, PSA, P11D)
- Liaising with auditors and preparing supporting documentation
- Assisting with Solicitors Accounts Regulations (SARs) quarterly statements
Financial Processing & Control
- Preparing and reviewing key balance sheet reconciliations
- Supporting purchase ledger, nominal, office & client ledger activities
- Assisting with preparing and posting month-end/year-end journals
- Maintaining accurate legal search and credit card expenditure records
Team Support & Communication
- Providing finance support to internal teams across the business
- Acting as a trusted point of contact for finance queries
- Offering support and cover across the wider finance department
Who We're Looking For
You'll thrive in this role if you're someone who loves accuracy, enjoys problem-solving, and can take initiative across a wide range of tasks.
Essential Requirements:
- Level 2 or Level 3 AAT (or working toward it)
- 2 years' experience in a similar finance role
- Experience using MS Excel, Outlook & Teams
- Experience working within a finance team
- Familiarity with computerised accounting software
- Strong communication, organisation and interpersonal skills
- High attention to detail, accuracy and initiative
Desirable:
- Part-qualified ACA/ACCA
- Legal bookkeeping experience
- Experience within a regulated or professional services environment
