Location: Limavady
Hours: 20 hrs week one - 30 hrs week two
Pay: 1-12 weeks £13.05 13 weeks + £13.47

We are hiring on behalf of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council for an experienced Caretaker in the Limavady area.

About the Role

  • The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day security, safety, cleanliness and general maintenance of the building and site assigned to.
  • Ensure that the department complies with all statutory and legislative requirements by adhering to these requirements and working in accordance with good governance and health and safety requirements.
  • Ensure that all responsibilities are carried out in a timely and effective manner and that general confidentiality is maintained in all areas relating to the work of the Council.

Key Responsibilities

  • Open and close the facility as required including checking that the premises; associated out buildings and perimeters are properly secured, setting the burglar alarm system as required.
  • Acting as the designated key holder and be responsible for on-site visitors or contractors and attend to rapid response and emergency call-outs as required.
  • Responsible for the effective operation of various systems within the building such as fire alarms, intruder alarm, CCTV, heating, lighting, plumbing and audio visual systems.
  • Provide information and direct or assist members of the public, contractors and external agencies with regards to the facility as appropriate.
  • Undertake basic general maintenance and minor repair work within and external to the facility.
  • Undertake internal cleaning to the entire premises including toilets, halls, offices, meeting rooms, social areas, kitchens, storage rooms, changing facilities, including the safe operation of cleansing machines and chemicals where appropriate.
  • Assisting with fire and security drills and with the evacuation of the building should it become necessary.
  • To be responsible for ensuring clear and safe pedestrian access to the Facility particularly in adverse weather conditions (eg clearing snow, gritting etc).
  • To clean light fittings and to test lighting systems weekly replacing where necessary minor parts such as tubes, bulbs, fuses starters and diffusers, in accordance with safe working practices.
  • To arrange to clear blockages, remove foreign matter from sinks, toilets, drains, kitchen grease traps etc and clean up spillages as required.
  • Carry out general grounds maintenance, clean and litter-pick the external area including backyard, forecourts, footpaths, car parks (gritting during winter months) including the safe operation of any maintenance/cleaning machines.
  • Ensure energy usage is not excessive by turning off lights, heating and equipment when not in use.

Essential Criteria

  • A current First Aid at Work Certificate. (If the successful applicant does not have a current First Aid at Work Certificate they must commit to achieving this qualification within six months of commencement in post.)

AND

  • Be able to demonstrate on the application form, by providing personal and specific examples, six months experience in each of the following areas:
  • basic general maintenance in a similar work environment;
  • cleaning in a work environment;
  • dealing with the general public;
  • record keeping.

OR

  • Alternatively, consideration will be given to candidates who do not possess a current First Aid at Work certificate but can demonstrate, on the application form, by providing personal and specific examples, one year's experience in the areas listed above (a - d).
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities related to the post for example working with electrical appliances and emergency procedures.

  • A full current driving licence (Category B, valid in the UK) and access to a vehicle that will enable the post holder to meet the requirements of the post OR have access to a form of transport that enables you to carry out the duties of the post.
