JOB TITLE: Waste Driver - Category C
LOCATION: Craimore

HOURS & PAY: Mon-Sat 37 hours a week, £14.13 plus 10% allowance for working weekends

Duration: 4-6 weeks

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB
Deliver Waste Resource Management services, including kerbside collection of residual and recyclable waste, street and environmental cleansing, Household Recycling Centre duties, and delivery of stores items, in line with Council quality standards. Manage resources, supervise crews, and ensure safe and efficient operations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Supervise daily tasks, rotas, and workloads; ensure completion within the working week.

• Inspect WRM containers; report damage or non-compliance.

• Comply with Road Traffic Regulations and relevant legislation.

• Maintain, clean, and operate vehicles and equipment; report defects or damage.

• Ensure onboard cameras, safety devices, and communication systems are functional.

• Supervise crews, liaise with customers, and maintain documentation.

• Perform WRM collection, street cleansing, litter collection, bulky waste collection, and recycling duties.

• Assist with Household Recycling Centre operations, maximizing recycling and recovery.

• Carry out alternative duties during inclement weather (e.g., gritting, snow clearance).

• Deliver Council communications and stores items safely.

• Contribute to team performance and KPIs; attend meetings and training.

• Comply with all Council policies, including Health, Safety, Wellbeing, and Safeguarding.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Work flexibly across tasks and Council sections as required.

• Provide high-level customer service, taking ownership of queries and complaints.

• Continuously develop skills and knowledge to enhance service delivery.

• Promote equality, diversity, and Council values in all service areas.

EMPLOYEE SPECIFICATION

Qualifications

• Valid C+E licence

• Full CPC Licence/Driver Qualification Card

Experience

• 2+ years operating with Category C licence

• 2+ years in waste management

• 2+ years driving refuse collection vehicles

Key Skills & Abilities

• Strong organisational and time management skills

• Ability to work independently

• Computer literate (TMS/GPS)

Special Knowledge

• Health & Safety procedures including manual handling

• Knowledge of waste collection, disposal, and recycling

• Traffic management

• Must complete Driver Assessment to fulfil post requirements
