Staffline is currently recruiting a Cook to work for our client in Ballymena Hospital.

Band 3 Cook

Monday - Friday 8.30am-3pm

Ongoing role / weekly pay

£12.31 per hour

Role Overview

The Band 3 Cook is responsible for preparing, cooking, and serving meals within the hospital to meet dietary, nutritional, and hygiene standards. You will ensure all food is prepared safely and efficiently, supporting the catering team in delivering high-quality meals for patients, staff, and visitors.


Main Duties

Food Preparation & Cooking

  • Prepare and cook meals according to set menus, recipes, and dietary guidelines.

  • Ensure meals meet specific dietary requirements (e.g., gluten-free, diabetic, soft diets).

  • Safely operate kitchen equipment such as ovens, grills, mixers, and steamers.

Food Safety & Hygiene

  • Follow all food hygiene regulations (HACCP).

  • Maintain cleanliness of kitchen areas, work surfaces, and equipment.

  • Label, store, and rotate food correctly to prevent waste and contamination.

Kitchen Operations

  • Assist with menu planning and meal portioning.

  • Monitor stock levels and report shortages.

  • Support with deliveries (checking temperatures, labelling, storing correctly).

  • Work as part of a team to ensure efficient service.

Customer Service

  • Ensure meals are served on time.

  • Liaise with nursing staff regarding patient dietary needs and changes.

  • Maintain a professional, polite attitude with staff, patients, and visitors.


Essential Requirements

  • Previous experience working as a cook or chef.

  • Knowledge of food safety standards (Level 2 or Level 3 Food Hygiene preferred).

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced catering environment.

  • Good communication and teamwork skills.


Desirable

  • Experience working in healthcare or large-scale catering.

  • HACCP experience.
