Job description
Duties: Post holders are required to effectively and efficiently carry out tasks which both support and are fundamental to producing and despatching the correct amount of product, within deadlines, which meet customer specifications, without compromising quality, food safety or health and safety standards.
Operational tasks: Tasks may include the following, although this is not an exhaustive list:
- Efficiently producing the correct quantity and quality of product in accordance with customer requirements and product specifications, within deadline; working to stock to minimise waste;
- Carry out pre-start checks, regularly monitoring and reporting maintenance requirements;
- Setting up, operating, controlling and overseeing production machinery;
- Carrying out changeovers efficiently;
- Assisting with production duties (e.g. packing, grading, preparing) as and when required;
- W.I.P. and/or picking orders as appropriate, drawing away finished products and/or wrapping finished products as appropriate (*Post holder must hold a valid license to operate a power pallet truck/forklift truck and be authorised to do so);
- Maintaining clean and hygienic equipment, machinery, work area and premises;
- Accurately calculating figures and recording information and maintaining accurate and up to date records associated with food production (manual and/or computerised). Leading a team:
- Effectively leading a team in line with equality and ethical standards, working to promote a good and harmonious working environment, encouraging teamwork and achieving and maintaining good levels of morale and motivation.
- Influencing and contributing to the performance of other team members, through involvement in performance management activities and on-the-job training activities, coaching and mentoring team members as required.
- Monitoring team performance, raising issues or concerns with Supervisors/Managers as necessary. Health, Safety & Hygiene:
- Maintaining a safe work area, working safely, being vigilant and reporting hazards or safety concerns.
- Supporting and following all food safety and food hygiene policies and practices, producing a 'safe' product and maintaining hygiene standards.
- Monitoring team and activities to ensure they are carried out safely and according to health and safety and food safety/hygiene guidelines and specified procedures.
- (Where appropriate licence is held) Safe and efficient operating of a power pallet truck, moving and handling material safely and efficiently.
- Maintaining product quality:
- Fully understanding product and customer specifications and all aspects of 'quality.'
- Ensuring team fully understand product and customer specifications and all aspects of 'quality.'
- Continually monitoring quality, reporting and/or addressing non-conformances, seeking advice and guidance as necessary and safely producing a product in accordance with food safety and food hygiene standards which meets product and customer specifications. Working with others:
- Communication with managers and staff at all levels to raise and resolve issues and provide information and feedback whenever necessary.
- Teamwork - support teamwork by contributing fully to the team effort. Co-operating with and assisting the team, managers and staff at all levels.
- Undertaking job rotation activities in order to maximise team flexibility. Efficiency:
- Influence and contribute to area/line performance - work to targets and aim to achieve optimum performance and efficiency levels without compromising quality, health and safety or food safety/hygiene standards. Problem solving and Decision-making:
- Making timely, effective decisions at a level appropriate to the role, using all of the information available. Seeking advice as necessary and using initiative to diagnose and overcome operating problems. Continuous improvement:
- Raising ideas and suggestions about workplace improvements and supporting and co-operating with any related changes implemented. Self-development:
- Identifying job-related training and development needs and raising these needs with the Supervisor/Manager.
