Overview

There is a range of positions across all functions of Digital & ICT in An Garda Síochána that will be filled by successful candidates to this competition. The available positions are categorised into four streams, and candidates may apply for positions in any number of available streams for which they are suited.

The four streams available are:

1. Digital/ICT Business Engagement
2. ICT Operations/Infrastructure
3. Networks & Cyber Security
4. Software Development

The specific duties of a Senior ICT Specialist will largely be determined by the role to which you are assigned. However, some duties and responsibilities will be common to all roles. The Senior ICT Specialist will have responsibility for a number of key day-to-day tasks to manage the delivery, maintenance and quality assurance of An Garda Síochána ICT systems and/or infrastructure.

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

Each candidate must, by the closing date, meet one of the following criteria:
A. Possess a qualification in a relevant area (minimum Level 7 NFQ) and at least 3 years of directly relevant hands-on ICT/Digital experience* from your employment to date.
OR
B. Possess a degree qualification at Level 8 on the NFQ major award (i.e honours level degree), or higher, with computing or computational modules taken in the final year and at least 3 years of directly relevant hands-on ICT/Digital experience* from your employment to date.
OR
C. Possess a qualification in a relevant area (minimum Level 6 NFQ) and at least 5 years of directly relevant hands-on ICT/Digital experience* from your employment to date.
OR
D. Possess two industry-recognised certifications** in a relevant area and at least 5 years of directly relevant hands-on ICT/Digital experience* from your employment to date.

Candidates must have demonstrable experience in at least one of the following areas:

• Digital/ICT Business Engagement
• ICT Operations/Infrastructure
• Networks & Cyber Security
• Software Development

In addition, candidates must be able to evidence experience of:

• Delivering ICT/Digital Solutions or Services which delivered continuous improvement, drove efficiencies, and positively impacted quality service delivery.
• Leadership of a team of ICT, digital and/or business engagement specialists, ensuring a focus on continuous improvement and service delivery.
• Strong personal technical expertise working across an enterprise-scale ICT/Digital team.
• Excellent communications and relationship management skills, with experience working as part of a team and, at times, leading a team or project group.
• Organising and prioritising competing work streams in a busy work environment

Senior ICT Specialists are positions at the Higher Executive Officer level and as such, candidates will be expected to demonstrate a range of competencies as set out in the Candidate Booklet.
