Legal Officer / HR professional
Salary: £24.59 p/h
Location: Belfast / Hybrid working
Hours: 9am - 5pm, Mon - Fri / 37 hours per week
Duration: Temporary ongoing
About the Role
This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified legal or HR professional to join the Northern Ireland Civil Service, providing high-level case management support on complex employment and governance matters.
The postholder will play a key role in analysing sensitive issues, coordinating stakeholders, and ensuring effective progression of cases in accordance with departmental and Civil Service requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Case Analysis and Coordination
Review, analyse, and manage complex casework, identifying key risks and making evidence-based recommendations.
Ensure that all actions align with departmental timelines, procedures, and governance requirements. - Stakeholder Engagement
Work collaboratively with key stakeholders including senior officials, HR colleagues, legal representatives, and policy leads to ensure a cohesive and well-informed approach to case handling. - Documentation and Reporting
Draft briefings, submissions, and correspondence for senior management.
Record and track key actions, ensuring that decisions and updates are accurately communicated.
Provide management information (MI) and progress updates to support strategic oversight.
Essential Criteria
Applicants must meet one of the following qualification and experience routes:
Legal Route
- Qualified as a barrister or solicitor entitled to practise in Northern Ireland.
AND
- Minimum of 3 years' post-qualification experience advising on significant legal issues and providing representation in a complex organisational environment.
HR Route
- HR professional with at least 3 years' experience handling employment law issues and/or managing complex casework (e.g. grievance, discipline, or dignity at work).
AND
- CIPD qualification and/or Employment Law accreditation.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience within the public sector or a large, multi-stakeholder organisation.
- Strong written communication skills, with the ability to produce concise, accurate briefings for senior audiences.
- Proven ability to analyse complex information and provide clear, evidence-based recommendations.
