Higher Scientific Officer Marine Ecology for AMBIO Shared Island Project
Location: Newforge Lane
Hours: Full-time, 37 hours per week (variable due to the nature of work)
Salary: £37,694 per annum
About AFBI & the Agri-Environment Branch
The Fisheries and Aquatic Ecosystems Branch (FAEB) of the Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute (AFBI) conducts research and development, monitoring and technology transfer in support of sustainable management of fisheries and aquatic resources, focusing particularly on the needs of Northern Ireland
Key Responsibilities
To achieve the requirements the jobholder will:
- Coordinate and undertake the scientific sampling of biological specimens as directed by senior scientific staff.
- Coordinate and conduct laboratory work.
- Manage staff during field and laboratory events.
- Disseminate key findings at knowledge transfer events.
- Produce a technical report describing findings and recommendations.
- The post involves working outside and will be based at Newforge AFBI HQ
Essential Criteria
Applicants must have, by the closing date for applications:
- A PhD in Aquatic Science, Environmental Science or equivalent.
OR
- Degree, equivalent or higher in Aquatic Science, Environmental Science or equivalent with 2 years' demonstrable experience in a research capacity post qualification in Aquatic Science, Environmental Science or equivalent and evidence of being a named author in a scientific paper.
AND
- Post graduate experience in scientific data management - to include familiarity and competence with electronic data using spreadsheets, database packages and GIS. Must understand the importance of data quality and of following sampling protocols.
- Have full driving licence that enables them to undertake the responsibilities of the role.
