JOB TITLE: Family Support Worker

BAND: Band 4

DIRECTORATE: Children & Families

LOCATION: F&CC Teams Strabane/Omagh /Enniskillen

REPORTS TO: Social Work Manager

Requirements

  • Minimum of Level 3 qualification (or equivalent) in a care related subject or an educational related subject

AND

  • 1 years' experience of working with families/children in a formal setting, where the work was regular

OR

  • Level 2 qualification in a Care related or an educational related subject

AND

  • 2 years' experience of working with families/children in a formal setting, where the work was regular

OR

  • 4 years' experience of working with families /children in a formal setting, where the work was regular

  • Currently hold or be eligible for immediate registration with the NISCC on the Social Care part of the register
  • Hold a current full driving licence which is valid for use in the UK and have access to a car on appointment. This criteria will be waived in the case of applicants whose disability prohibits driving but who have access to a form of transport approved by the Trust which will permit them to carry out the duties of the post.

JOB SUMMARY

To provide a flexible support service to families with children in need in keeping with the assessed Care Plan and this will include some evening/weekend work.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To assist Social Workers in assessing the needs to children, young people and families in accordance with Legislation, Policy and Procedure.

  • To assist Social Workers in the implementation of Child Care Plans.

  • To undertake direct work with children and young people.

  • To facilitate supervised Family Time / contact arrangements. This will include driving duties.

  • To support parents, children and young people in developing confidence and self-esteem.

  • To contribute to parenting programmes (individual and group work).

  • To maintain individual caseloads and provide reports and information as required including giving evidence in Court.

  • To maintain appropriate records.

  • To participate in supervision, peer support groups and appropriate training and developments.

  • To participate in Team Meetings and contribute to the development of the Team.

  • To liaise with other agencies in multi-disciplinary work appropriate to individual cases.

  • To highlight concerns/untoward events regarding children and young people in keeping with Trust Policies and Procedures.

  • To act in accordance with Trust Policies and Procedures in all matters.

  • To maintain a high degree of confidentiality/discretion.

General Management Responsibilities

The post holder will promote and support effective team working, fostering a culture of

openness and transparency. The post holder will ensure that they take all concerns raised with them seriously and act in accordance with 'Your right to raise a concern (Whistleblowing)' policy and their professional code of conduct, where applicable.

General Requirements

The post holder will be required to:

  • Ensure the Trust's policy on equality of opportunity is promoted through his/her own actions and those of any staff for whom he/she has responsibility.

  • Co-operate fully with regard to Trust policies and procedures relating to infection prevention and control.

  • Employees must at all times abide by Trust policies and procedures and the terms of their contract of employment. They must conduct themselves with impartiality, integrity, objectivity and honesty and maintain high standards of personal and professional accountability.

  • Employees are expected to demonstrate commitment to the Trust by ensuring regular attendance at work and efficient completion of duties.

  • Employees must ensure that they comply with any risk management responsibilities specific to their post, and as set out in the Trust's Risk Management Strategy.

  • The Trust is committed to the development and implementation of systems under Integrated Governance to ensure continuous improvement in the quality of services provided. Employees will be expected to co-operate and work with such systems.
