Family Support Worker


Purpose & Objectives:

Deliver training, workshops, and support to kinship carers and their children. Establish a community network, including support groups and family activities, and contribute to the organisation's strategic goals of enhancing the well-being of kinship families.


Location: Antrim Road, Belfast

Salary: £26,010

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, including some evenings and weekends.

Annual Leave: 5 weeks, exclusive of bank holidays.

Travel: Expenses reimbursed at 40p per mile.

Access NI Check: Enhanced disclosure required.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Create a safe, supportive environment for carers and their children.
  2. Organise and deliver play-based activities, training, and support sessions.
  3. Develop and facilitate support plans, groups, and training courses for families.
  4. Collaborate with external organisations to establish referral processes and build partnerships.
  5. Provide advice, assist in volunteer coordination, and ensure health and safety standards.
  6. Promote services, manage administrative tasks, and report outcomes.
  7. Maintain confidentiality, observe professional boundaries, and ensure safeguarding policies are followed.
  8. Attend meetings and assist with fundraising and other organisational tasks.

Person Specification:

Essential:

  • Relevant qualification in childcare, health and social care, community development, or related field (NVQ Level III or higher).
  • 3 years' paid experience working with vulnerable children and families.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and administrative skills.
  • Competency in IT and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Driving license and access to a car (or ability to arrange suitable alternatives if disabled).

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of kinship care rights and entitlements.
  • Creativity and ability to generate new ideas.
