Transport & Distribution Supervisor

Location: Galway
Job Type: Full-Time | Permanent

The Opportunity

Our client, a well-established and growing organisation within the retail and distribution sector, is seeking an experienced Transport & Distribution Supervisor to join their logistics team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a transport professional with strong leadership skills and experience managing drivers, planning routes, and ensuring compliance with transport regulations. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering an efficient, safe, and customer-focused transport operation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and coordinate daily and weekly delivery schedules.
  • Allocate routes to drivers while maximising vehicle capacity and operational efficiency.

  • Ensure delivery schedules meet customer expectations while supporting overall business performance.

  • Supervise and support a team of drivers and delivery personnel.

  • Manage driver rotas, attendance, annual leave, and overtime.
  • Foster a positive team culture focused on safety, accountability, and customer service.
  • Ensure full compliance with Road Safety Authority (RSA) regulations and EU Drivers' Hours legislation.

  • Monitor tachograph records and investigate any infringements.
  • Ensure daily vehicle inspections are completed and defects are reported promptly.

  • Coordinate vehicle maintenance and repairs to minimise downtime.

  • Maintain accurate transport and compliance records.

  • Promote safe loading, unloading, and securing of goods.

  • Act as the main point of contact for delivery-related queries.
  • Respond to delivery issues as they arise.

  • Process delivery documentation and returned goods.

  • Review daily vehicle inspection reports.

  • Coordinate urgent vehicle repairs when required.

  • Prepare driver rotas and delivery schedules for the following week.

  • Review tachograph data and compliance reports.

  • Produce transport performance reports, including delivery performance, fleet utilisation, fuel usage, and service levels.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 3 years' experience in transport, logistics, dispatch, or distribution supervision.
  • Previous experience leading and managing a team of drivers.

  • Strong knowledge of RSA regulations, EU Drivers' Hours legislation, and tachograph compliance.

  • Experience using Transport Management Systems (TMS), vehicle tracking, or route planning software.

  • Excellent planning, organisation, and problem-solving skills.
