Staff Officer - Retained Finance Function

Location: Newforge Lane
Hours: Full-time, 37 hours per week
Pay Rate: £19.59 per hour

About the Role

We are currently recruiting for an experienced and motivated Staff Officer to join a busy finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for a finance professional with strong leadership skills and proven experience across Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable functions.

The successful candidate will play a key role in overseeing day-to-day finance operations, supporting wider business functions, and managing a small team to ensure accurate and efficient financial processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing Accounts Receivable activities, with Accounts Payable cover as required
  • Supervising junior managers and administrative staff, including attendance management and performance oversight
  • Completing daily banking duties, including downloading banking receipts and supplying posting information
  • Managing customer remittances
  • Overseeing the Sales Invoice process, including liaising with internal and external customers and preparing currency invoices
  • Debt management and credit control activities
  • Handling customer and supplier queries via telephone and email
  • Producing month-end reporting, including sales ledger reconciliations and suspense account reviews
  • Assisting branches with Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable process queries
  • Managing held supplier invoice notifications and releasing invoices for payment
  • Producing high-level financial reports for senior management

Essential Criteria

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience working within a finance team
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience managing an Accounts Payable and/or Accounts Receivable function
  • Proven experience managing staff and delivering outcomes against competing priorities
  • Strong experience using computerised accounting systems
  • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Ability to work accurately in a fast-paced environment

Desirable Skills

  • Previous supervisory or team leadership experience within a finance environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Experience working with multi-currency invoicing
