Band 2 Support Services Caretaker
Location: Shannon Clinic, KHCP
Pay: £12.51 per hour basic and enhanced rate for Sat & Sun
Hours: 08.00 - 16:00 4 days per week including weekends
Job Purpose
We are seeking a reliable and proactive Support Services Caretaker to support the smooth day-to-day running of the Shannon Clinic. The post holder will report to the Operational Manager and work closely with the Centre Manager, ensuring a safe, clean, and well-maintained environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
Key Responsibilities
Mail & Stores
- Distribute and collect mail throughout the centre
- Sort and frank mail for post office collection
- Manage franking machine credit and departmental accounts
- Receive, issue, and distribute stores, laundry, goods, and equipment
- Operate the materials management system to order and store stock
Portering & General Duties
- Manage waste streams including domestic, confidential, clinical waste, and sharps
- Collect clinical samples and deliver to reception
- Set up conference rooms and ensure audio-visual equipment is functioning
- Move furniture and equipment as required
- Assist with internal and external garden maintenance
- Act as contact point for deliveries at reception airlock
Cleaning & Hygiene
- Respond to spillages, including body fluids
- Carry out scheduled and ad-hoc cleaning tasks
- Shampoo carpets, clean bin areas, and manage waste
- Monitor contractor cleaning work, such as window cleaning
- Maintain cleanliness and tidiness throughout the facility
Car Park & External Areas
- Clear debris, broken glass, and litter
- Empty bins and remove cigarette waste
- Grit pathways and clear snow during adverse weather
Curtains & Screens
- Remove, label, and re-hang curtains and screens as required
Minor Maintenance
- Carry out basic maintenance tasks such as replacing light bulbs and batteries, unblocking sinks and toilets, and adjusting lighting
- Identify, isolate, and report faulty or leaking equipment
Security
- Act as a key holder for the building
- Respond to alarms and liaise with contractors
- Open and secure the building and set alarms
- Report suspicious activity where necessary
- Ensure fire exits and walkways are kept clear
- Escort visitors and contractors in line with agreed protocols
IT & Fire Safety
- Troubleshoot basic IT issues and liaise with the IT department
- Assist the Centre Manager with fire safety procedures, including evacuations
Health, Safety & Environment
- Contribute to a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff
- Report or rectify hazards and ensure safety signage is in place
Other Duties
- Undertake additional duties as directed by the Supervisor or Operational Manager
Essential Criteria
- Relevant experience essential
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills
Desirable Criteria
- Experience working within a health and social care environment
Additional Information
Applicants must meet the essential criteria to be shortlisted. Enhanced Access NI clearance will be required.
