Assistant Scientific Officer - Integrated Pest Management - part-time
Location: Belfast
Hours: Part-time, up to 26 hours per week
Salary: £13.75 per hour

The Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute (AFBI) delivers world-class science to support agriculture, the environment, and the wider economy. Sponsored by the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA), AFBI provides evidence-based research and monitoring that informs government policy and promotes sustainability in Northern Ireland and beyond.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with pesticide monitoring surveys, including accurate logging, checking and management of field data.
- Support the laboratory identification of insects, particularly aphids and midges, using established protocols.
- Carry out data entry of pesticide usage information into internal databases with a high level of accuracy.
- Contribute to routine operational tasks to support the wider scientific team.
Essential Criteria
5 GCSE's including science, maths & english language (Grades A*-C for subjects specified), equivalent or higher
AND
6 months relevant experience
- Experience in entomology
- Knowledge of plant health and crop protection
- Proven ability to identify insects to species level
- Proven ability to use Excel
- Attention to detail
