Role: Instrumentation, Control and Automation (ICA) Engineer

Contract: Permanent

Location: Based at either Dunore (Crumlin), Castor Bay (Lurgan) or Ballinrees (Coleraine), but mobile to all Alpha sites.

Salary: £42,607 - £56,810 (depending on experience)

Hours of work:

  • 37 hours per week

The Role:

To provide ICA services to area-based Process Team to ensure that the team meets and exceeds its targets and critical business performance measures. Deliver world-class asset and operational excellence across all area assets in pursuit of health and safety excellence; regulatory compliance; zero customer impact; operational efficiency and business plan out performance

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain & replace all online instrumentation, to ensure contractual compliance.
  • Support Operations in performance & optimisation of plant processes.
  • Identify weaknesses/areas of improvement & provide solutions. This may include Root Cause Analysis and preparation of Business Cases and Tender documentation.
  • Produce PLC coding improvements & SCADA updates.
  • Manage & maintain backups of all code & SCADA projects across all NIW Alpha sites.
  • Manage & control all relevant software package updates & control of licenses.
  • Engage with Framework contractors to deliver projects on budget and time for Capital schemes.
  • Collate data for Management team for monthly operating reports & contractual requirements including audits.
  • Facilitate integration of Client efficiency & process improvement Projects onto SCADA system
  • Liaise with Client & facilitate current & future IT security enhancements across all NIW Alpha sites. In addition, there are more general business responsibilities:
  • Transform all area assets into safe, integrated, productive and reliable sites. Drive significant improvements in asset availability through improved ways of working and consistent application of IT and technology.
  • Follow all NI Water Alpha Health and Safety policies e.g. Control of Work, Risk Assessments, Site inductions etc. Ensure hazard mitigation plans are in place and submit capital requests for H&S capital. Conduct safety audits.
  • Act as a key liaison role between the Asset Team and other key internal departments within NIW Group, suppliers and any external stakeholders. This may include regular meeting attendance and participation in working groups
  • Provide technical support to Asset Management & Planned Maintenance teams e.g. small capital and revenue schemes.
  • Support the Asset Manager with ensuring that optimised asset maintenance standards and procedures, performance monitoring and analysis processes are in place and fully utilised to support asset management and decision making
  • Provide cover for the Asset Manager when required
  • Resolve high priority, complex and emergency problems, using external resources where necessary.
  • Provide technical support in the management of incidents and 'near misses' relating to all area assets.
  • Audit compliance with procurement processes including Oracle/Purchase Card.
  • Co-ordinate activities during operational incidents.
  • Participate when required in incident management and review processes, taking ownership for ensuring that opportunities for improvement are implemented.
  • Liaison with Client on telemetry alarm issues via engagement with the Alarm Monitoring Centre.
  • Develop, identify and engage with internal and external ICA Engineers to improve and optimise process control and automation within the treatment works.
  • Write Technical Specifications and participate in Tender process.

Budget and People Management Responsibilities

  • Daily management of external ICA contracts and contractors.
  • Set and manage ICA budget to improve asset reliability and performance and reduce reactive spend

Other Information

  • 24hr standby is a requirement of this role. Currently 1 week in 5/6.
  • The successful candidate will also be required to be at their appointed site at their normal start time and that they will work up to normal finishing time before leaving for home

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

  • Have a BTEC Ordinary National Certificate (ONC) in a relevant engineering discipline AND have a minimum of three years relevant post qualification industrial maintenance experience working with instrumentation, control systems, and automation.

OR

  • Have completed a recognised relevant Engineering apprenticeship or a relevant National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) or equivalent AND have a minimum of three years relevant post apprenticeship industrial maintenance experience working with instrumentation, control systems, and automation.

AND

  • Minimum of two years' experience in writing, implementing, fault finding, modifying, and maintaining PLC, including proficiency in developing and troubleshooting PLC code
  • Minimum of two years' experience in the installation, calibration, and maintenance of field instrumentation (e.g. flow, level, pressure sensors).
  • Hold a current valid driving licence to enable you to fulfil your responsibilities.
  • Have a permanent residence within the 35 miles travelling distance by public road to one of the NI Water Alpha locations, as set out below. This distance is measured by using theRAC Route Planner from full postcode to full postcode via the'shortestroute' selection on the website.

DESIRABLE CRITERIA

  • Hold a Level 4 qualification or higher (e.g. HNC, HND, or Degree) in Electrical, Electronic, Instrumentation, or Control Engineering.
  • Experience in a water treatment or food manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in using SCADA systems
