About the Role
We are recruiting a Head of Environmental Health to join our team at Newry, Mourne and Down Council facilities. You will be responsible for the assisting the Assistant Director of Health and Well Being in developing and implementing the relevant strategies of the Council, within their areas of responsibility. You will support transformational change within the Directorate / Section ensuring and implementing integration of new and current functions and responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure an appropriate and effective food hygiene and food standards regime is in place across
the district, in accordance with the relevant legislation and guidance. - Manage, oversee and review a system to deal with and respond to food complaints.
- Ensure an effective food sampling programme is in place.
- Responsible for ensuring that premises receive appropriate legislative approval as required.
- Ensure all infectious disease notifications are investigated and action taken accordingly.
- Prepare annual food service plan.
- Monitor and manage the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme (FHRS) across the district.
- Manage the legislative control of the fishing industry in the District, to include fishing fleet,
processing facilities and fish markets.
Health & Safety at Work (External) - Ensure an appropriate and effective service plan is in place across the district, in accordance
with the relevant legislation and guidance. - Manage, oversee and review a system to deal with work related accidents and workplace
- Responsible for the organisation and delivery of enforcement and educational initiatives in
partnership with relevant statutory agencies (for example HSE) and business organisations. - Ensure a Safety of Sports Grounds regime is in place across the district and safety certificates

Requirements
- This role will require the successful applicant to complete a Basic Access NI clearance check
- Successful applicants will need to be able to drive between sites of the Newry, Mourne and Down District Council.
