Job title: Professional Accountant Grade 1
Location: Garda Headquarters, Phoenix Park, Dublin 8
Salary: Starting from €79,836

The Role:
The Directorate seeks to appoint a number of Accountant Grade 1 professionals to positions in key business areas within the directorate. These are senior management positions and holders will have functional leadership responsibility for key business areas in the Finance Directorate.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

The general duties and responsibilities listed below are indicators of the responsibilities which may be assigned and are not intended to be the actual list of duties involved and consequently, the post holder may be required to perform other duties as appropriate to the post and/or which may be assigned from time to time and to contribute to the development of the post while in office:

  • Preparation and management of AGS Estimates, budgets/forecasts, Appropriation Account and other official reporting functions as may be required.
  • Attending to requests from external stakeholder partners such as Comptroller and Auditor General (C&AG), Department of Justice, Department of Public Expenditure and Reform and the Policing Authority.
  • Preparation of internal and external financial and management reports.
  • Development and implementation of new improvements to financial management policies, procedures and systems.
  • Enhancement and maintenance of an overall financial control environment to ensure best practice.
  • Lead and partake in the reform agenda of the AGS finance function.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of appropriate management information systems, financial management systems and other related ICT systems.
  • Plan, organise, manage and supervise the work of direct reports including staff development.
  • Providing financial advice and assistance to internal departments to support the achievement of the Corporate Objectives and support devolved budgeting structures.
  • Promoting and assisting the implementation of good practice in: Risk Management; Procurement; Value for Money; Shared Services; Efficiency and Effectiveness;
  • Participate in AGS committees/ working groups as assigned by the Head of Finance.
  • Play a Key role in AGS governance environment.
  • To undertake such duties, projects or activities as may be assigned from time to time by the Principal Officer.
