My client a leading public sector organisation based in Belfast are currently seeking to recruit a Full-Time Chief Cardiac Clinical Physiologist.
Hours: Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm
Pay: £19.10 per hour
Job Summary / Main Purpose
- To perform high standard specialist Echocardiograms in a range of clinical conditions including Adult Congenital, Stress, Contrast and Emergency Echo.
- To assist in the training of Cardiac Physiologists and Medical staff in Echocardiography.
- To report, at a high level, echocardiograms performed by physiologists and medical staff in training.
- Triaging of Echocardiography referrals.
- Ensure that personal knowledge is current, reflecting change in clinical practice.
- To review, maintain and develop agreed standards of documentation in accordance with BSE guidelines and department minimum standards, in liaison with Lead Echo Physiologist/Scientist. Support its implementation.
- Develop protocols and procedures to meet local and national requirements for good practice and service delivery.
- Participate in Clinical Physiologist led clinics as required, within these specialist clinics provide clinical advice to the patient and make recommendations/decisions for appropriate follow-up. verbally communicate the echo findings in lay terms and interpreted in the prevailing clinical context.
- Provide a leading role in audit and quality control activities.
- Contribute to identifying areas requiring improvement and conducting audit/service review.
- To work flexibly to accommodate the needs of the echocardiography service, this includes cross-site working, participating in extended working days and weekend working as determined by operational requirements.
Main Duties / Responsibilities
The post holder will;
- Act as a highly skilled Cardiac Physiologist demonstrating advanced knowledge/skills and clinical reasoning to deal with complex cases within the field of Echocardiography in a scheduled or unscheduled/emergency environment.
- Autonomously perform and report echocardiograms at a high level and to liaise with medical staff regarding significant findings.
- Provide advice/support to clinical physiology colleagues on clinical practice issues.
- Contribute to multi-disciplinary working by effective integrated clinical practice.
- Act as a resource to medical staff and other professionals locally, regarding prioritisation criteria and appropriate referral to the service.
- As part of the echo team, present educational case-reports or clinical presentations to the wider cardiology team. Lead the weekly review meeting.
- Maintain, continue and encourage continual professional development and lifelong learning. Master's level structured study, acquiring knowledge of ultrasound physics and echocardiography through the successful completion of Adult TTE Accreditation with the British Society of Echocardiography. (Optional) Further theoretical knowledge has been developed by the completion of a MSc in Echocardiography; attendance at the weekly educational meetings of the echocardiography department; attendance at local national education events and conferences; self-study in all areas of echocardiography.
- Responsible for providing regular training, development and supervision to junior colleagues and individuals within the echo department
- Ensure that equipment and necessary resources are available and in good working order prior to conducting test/investigation
- Create booking templates to meet the service needs and staffing levels.
- Plan and help organise the work of junior and trainee staff.
- When required - Day to day management of own area including sickness absence, staff development reviews and weekly rota.
- Work flexibly to accommodate the needs of the Echocardiography service
- Participate in extended working days and weekend working to accommodate Echocardiography service needs.
- Maintain voluntary AHCS registration or equivalent.
- Maintain professional accreditation (BSE).
- Participate in risk assessment
Essential Criteria
-BSc Honours in Clinical Physiology or equivalent -Full adult BSE accreditation - At least one years' experience in echocardiography following full BSE accreditation. - To have RCCP, AHCS or HCPC registration OR to be eligible for and have submitted an application for AHCS or HCPC registration. - Current In-Hospital Life Support or equivalent (within prior 2 years). |
Able to drive. 'Where disability prohibits driving, this criteria will be waived if the applicant is able to organise suitable alternative arrangements' |

-Evidence of Post Graduate Training in addition to BSE accreditation.
